The Stars 3 Screensaver allows flexibly configure the parameters of animation that you will see on a screen of your monitor when PC is idle.
Opening the settings window
To access settings window for the Stars 3 Screensaver you must open "Display" applet on the Control Panel. Another way to open this applet is to do a right-click on free place of your desktop, then choose "Properties" item from a context menu.
Open the "Screensaver" tab and select "Stars 3 Screensaver" from the drop-down list with all the screensavers available on your system. Now, in the small preview monitor picture you will see a small animation of the flight through starfield. You can press the "Preview" button to preview operation of the screensaver in full screen mode, as if it was started after some idle time.
To configure the Stars 3 Screensaver press the "Settings..." button. You will see a window with three tabs and three buttons.
Press "OK" button to accept configuration changes you have made and use them in next Stars 3 Screensaver operation. This button will also close the configuration window.
Press "Cancel" button to cancel any changes you have made and close the configuration window without saving them.
Press "Help" button to open this on-line help page, describing settings of the currently selected tab.
Configuring starfield simulation
First tab of settings window is "Simulation".
There you can configure how the screensaver must model starfield, gas clouds, flight speed, angle, and course changes. You will be able to choose color and smoothness of stars and audio file to be played back during operation.

Stars amount
Use this slider to set how many stars you want to view simultaneously.
Interstellar gas clouds density
Use this slider to set density of gas clouds. To disable gas clouds at all, choose 0 value.
Coloring stars
This field will give you opportunity to choose how stars will look. When colouring stars is disabled, they all will be white. By increasing color difference, you may get more red, yellow, and blue stars.
Movement speed
Set the speed of the star flight. If you were a real space traveler, you would never see this kind of movement, because it would exist only if you fly much faster than the speed of light. For now, science says such velocity is impossible. Of course, powered flight through the air was once thought impossible, too…
Rotation speed
Set the amount of rotation in the flight. This number can be positive or negative. The zero value means no rotation, -100 – fastest counter-clockwise rotation, and +100 – fastest clockwise rotation of the starfield.
You may use the rotation speed slider to achieve a sort of "hypnotic" effect. Be careful!
Roaming frequency
This slider allows you to set how often and how fast the direction of flight will change.
Roaming amplitude
This slider allows you to set how drastically the course will change during roaming. To view a flight on a straight line and without any course changes, make it zero.
Roaming overrides rotation speed and direction
By checking this box, you will disable rotation during the flight: roll angle will be determined by current course change.
Anti-aliasing mode
This drop list allows you to set how the stars will be drawn and appear. “Anti-aliasing” means using drawing techniques to avoid jagged edges.
Playback sound in background
Select from this list and you will hear background sound in a repeating loop during simulation. To disable a sound, select "disable".
A default sound is on this list. It is named "Relic music" because it was recorded to simulate relics of the "Big Bang" that created the universe.
You can select your own sound file by using the "browse..." item from this list. You will be prompted to point to your file. Your sound file will be stored in this drop list, so you can select it later from the list without using the "browse..." item.
Configuring display
Second tab of configuration window is "Display".
It will allow you to set level of animation smoothness, display resolution and multi-monitor configuration (if your PC has more than one monitor).

Simulation smoothness (FPS)
The higher values – the smoother animation – the more computational requirements to your system (CPU and video). It is measure in Frames-Per-Second (FPS). Note, that this value is only desired smoothness. If you will set too high FPS, but the system will not be capable to achieve it, the screensaver will smoothly reduce it automatically to avoid glitch animation.
Same simulation models on all displays
This option is available if your PC has two or more monitors attached. Place this check to see same flight and same starfield on all displays involved in operation.
Video mode
This is a parameter of your display. Choose the resolution and color quality to use in full-screen operation. We do not recommend 16-bit color quality when using gas clouds simulation – most video hardware does not implement semitransparent clouds with this color depth.
Leave black
This option is available if your PC has two or more monitors attached. Check this box to disable animation on this display. It will remain black during operation.
Note: If your PC is equipped with more than one monitor, you will be able to set their settings separately.
Message settings
Second tab contains settings for message you may want to leave for someone who may visit your workplace and will try to close screensaver:

Recently used messages
There is a list of message text you used recently. Choose one and it will be copied immediately into the message text box below.
Message text
Type text of your message there.
Style
Choose one of the styles available for the message. First is simple default and others are stylized ones.
Display the message...
Enable this option to disallow showing the message when screensaver starts automatically after some idle time.
Approximate return time
You may type there approximate time you will be out of your desktop. When screensaver will show the message it will calculate approximate time before your return and will show it.
Minimum return time
If you underestimated the time of your absence and approximate time run out, you may use this option to disallow showing the time less than amount set there.
Create shortcut at desktop
Press this button to create an application shortcut on your desktop. It will be named as 'Stars 3 Screensaver (n)' where n – is some number used to avoid duplicate names. You can later rename it to more descriptive name. Use this shortcut to start the screensaver immediately.
Create at quick launch bar
Press this button to create an application screenshot at quick launch bar instead of desktop.
"About" tab
The third tab of configuration window is "About".
There you can find software contact information, your registration information (registered user name and key code). In addition, there you will be able to view the text of license agreement, look for updates, and change user interface language.
